The Brooklyn Green Magnet School for Eco-Activism (BKG), located in the historic Weeksville District of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, is a progressive middle school committed to fostering a generation of eco-conscious leaders. Situated in a community founded in 1838 by freed African Americans, BKG draws inspiration from Weeksville's legacy of self-sufficiency, political activism, and community building. At BKG, we are dedicated to nurturing well-rounded, eco-conscious citizens. Our curriculum blends academic rigor, social-emotional learning, and community engagement. Students participate in a range of courses, including Mathematics, Humanities, Inquiry-based Science and Lab, Camping, Boat Building and Sailing, Chorus, Drumming, Guitar, Piano, Theater, Chinese Language and Culture, and Art. Each year, students perform a Broadway show, compete in citywide debate tournaments, Spelling Bees, and participate in soccer, basketball, and volleyball team sports. Students take on leadership roles by serving on the School Leadership Team, Student Ambassadors, and Student Government, ensuring that student voice is amplified. Our commitment to social responsibility is reflected in our strong emphasis on community service and social justice. Physical well-being is equally prioritized, with a comprehensive Health, Physical Education program. At BKG, we believe experience is the best teacher. Learning extends beyond the classroom walls, with frequent excursions. Diversity is our strength. Every student's background and experiences are valued, fostering an inclusive space where everyone is celebrated as uniquely valuable members of our school community.
